Dietmar Garn belongs to the new generation of international renowned guitar-virtuosos.
He studied classical-guitar at the „Musikhochschule Köln/Aachen“ with Prof. T.Sasaki and at the „Musikakademie Kassel“ as master student of Michael Troester and although electric-guitar at the Munich-Guitar Institute MGI. He received his diplomas with highest honors.
Concert-tours brought him several times to asia, australia and he toured in germany and other european countries.
His concert at the Bunka-Kaikan-Recital Hall in Tokyo was filmed by the „Japan Federation of Guitarists“ and his playing is although documentet on several CDs, radio- and television broadcasts in germany, italy, spain, japan , south-korea and australia.
Dietmar Garn received many awards at international guitar-competitions worldwide.
He won the 1st prize at the „43rd Tokyo International Guitar Competition 2000“. This event is one of the most important and biggest guitar-competitions worldwide.
Other awards in his career are: 1st prize „9th International Voice and Instrumental Competition Anemos Rom 2002“, 2nd prize „4th Hong Kong International Guitar Competition 2002“, 2nd prize „2nd Australian Guitar Competition Newcastle 2002“, 1st prize „18th International Voice and Instrumental Competition Rovere ´d´Oro San Bartolomeo al Mare-Imperia 2003“ , 1st prize „First European Guitar Competition Gorizia/Italy 2004“ and finalist at the guitar-competitions: Viareggio/Italy, Velez-Malaga/Spain and Printemps de la guitare/Belgium.
His concert repertoire includes solo-pieces, chambermusic and concertos with orchestra.
The stylistic range is from renaissance to contemporary music and includes as well spanish- , latinamerican- and jazz influenced music.
In addition to his activities on the classical guitar he works although as a live- and studiomusician on the electric guitar.
The japanese guitar magazine „Gendai Guitar“ wrote about him „virtuoso passionate performer“ and „extraordinary musician“. The italian guitar magazine „Chitarra Classica“ published an interview under the title „The future of the guitar with Dietmar Garn“.
